Posted on 29th October 2016

The October Transport Month campaign is an annual feature on the calendar of the Department of Transport (DOT) and is one of the platforms through which the department and its entities engage directly with their stakeholders.

The objective of Transport Month is to:
• Raise awareness of the important role of transport in the economy;
• Invite civic society and business to participate in providing a safer, more affordable, accessible and reliable transport system for the country.

As part of the Transport Month celebrations in 2015, the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA), an entity of DOT, hosted an air show at Dundee Airfield in KwaZulu Natal. The event was attended by 750 learners and an estimated 3000 members of the community.

Following the resounding success of this event, SACAA decided to rotate the event to different provinces to ensure that we take aviation to the people in all corners of the country. For the 2016 celebrations, Phalaborwa Gateway Airport in Limpopo will host event. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday the 29th October 2016, hosting 1000 learners and -+3000 members of the community from the Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality and surrounding areas.
